The atomic bomb will be remembered as the thing that ended the war, gave the allies the victory, and prevented another world war but also left Japan in ruins. According to history.com, "a US B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, instantly killing around 80,000 people. Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, causing the deaths of 40,000 more. The dropping of the bombs, which occurred by executive order of US President Harry Truman, remains the only nuclear attack in history. In the months following the attack, roughly 100,000 more people died slow, horrendous deaths as a result of radiation poisoning." The atomic bomb was one of the biggest mass destructions in history. It left Japan in ruins and killed thousands and thousand of people. On the other hand according to our textbook, " [it was] believed that an economic blockade and conventional bombing would convince Japan to surrender." They were hoping that because of the atomic bomb, the Japanese would surrender and that would end the war. It was also give the allies the victory. Also according to Thank God for the Atomic Bomb more men would have died during an attack then the amount of people dead after the atomic bomb. It didn't cause more deaths but it shortened the war time by at least 6 months. "[it marked] the end of a horrendous global conflict and the effective demonstration of a weapon that has prevented another world war," (Excerpts from "Three Narratives of our Humanity). The atomic bomb, as of now, was also able to prevent other outbreaks of whole world wars from occurring and the same book also states that its hard to believe that Japan would have surrendered without the bomb being dropped. This would have made the war go on much longer and many more deaths would have occurred.
